Ballarat & Grampians Community Legal Service (BGCLS) is a registered charity providing free legal services in Central Highlands, Grampians and Wimmera regions. We have offices in Ballarat and Horsham. We provide outreach services to Ararat, Stawell, St Arnaud and Daylesford. We support individuals and families in 11 LGAs from Bacchus Marsh through to the South Australian border. BGCLS welcomes applications from people of all genders, ages, First Nation peoples, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse and intersex people. It is an exciting time to join the team at BGCLS in 2024 with our services expanding in Horsham and the development of our new strategic plan.

Inviting Expressions of Interest Striving for an informed community with access to justice, Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service (BGCLS) delivers high quality professional legal services, education, support, and advocacy to the communities of the Ballarat and Grampians region.
We assist and support clients dealing with individual legal matters including family, family violence, civil and criminal, as well as working more broadly with our partners in capacity building and law and policy reform projects to address community need. Our Board seeks to strengthen its skill base by recruiting 2 Board Directors (Voluntary) who can bring their specialist expertise as a lawyer or community services manager to the BGCLS Board as it fulfills its strategic direction-setting, oversight, and governance responsibilities. To enhance our capacity to deliver on our purpose BGCLS is seeking to structure a diverse board of committed individuals, with a range of thinking styles, qualifications, skills, and life experiences. Volunteer Solicitors Volunteers are integral to the establishment and maintenance of our service delivery model, which is fundamentally different to the services available elsewhere in the private legal system. Volunteer Solicitors must have a current practising certificate.
Our volunteer clinics operate Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons. Volunteers are rostered according to their availability and the areas of law they can advise in.

Further Education Student Placement BGCLS provides a variety of opportunities for university students in various areas of study including Law, Social Work and Criminal Justice.
