Warm referrals for legal assistance Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service (BGCLS) is now inviting warm referrals from community, health and council services across the Wimmera and Central Highlands regions via anonline form.
Upon receiving a referral we aim to make contact within 2 business days to determine how we can best assist. For urgent matters please call 5331 5999 during business hours (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday). We do ask that you seek permission from clients or service users before providing information on their behalf. General services BGCLS provides free legal information, referrals, advice and in some cases ongoing representation with a focus on helping people who face economic and social disadvantage, are ineligible for legal aid and cannot afford a private lawyer. We can potentially assist your clients or service users with issues around:
Family law
Family violence
Intervention orders
Renting and tenancy issues
Credit issues, debts, fines or infringements
Uninsured motor vehicle accidents
Victims of crime assistance
Referrals to appropriate legal supports for matters we are unable to provide assistance with.
Given that early intervention can be critical in stabilising circumstances for families and individuals a pro-active approach to seeking legal assistance is encouraged. Family violence duty lawyer service We currently provide a Family Violence Duty Lawyer service at the Ballarat Specialist Family Violence Court and the Ararat, Horsham, Stawell, and St Arnaud Magistrates’ Courts. Pre-court assistance, enabling more comprehensive preparation for court appearances, may also be available in specific circumstances. Where possible please refer any clients or service users attending court for orders in advance so we can determine what additional support we may be able to offer.
